To set the scene: I shall be 88 this year which limits the length of time left in which to get 'things done'. My plans shift like the wind as time progresses, but that doesn't matter as long as I continue to achieve. Although I obtained a BSc(Hons) Social Policy and a BA Creative Writing & English between 2000 & 2006, it wasn't until Patsy died in Nov 2021 that I decided to fill my time with higher education. It was either that or stare into the black hole of mourning.
Since 2022, I have managed an MA in Naval History with the University of Portsmouth, been elected Member of the Society of Architectural Illustrators, been elected Postgraduate Member of the Royal Historical Society, and passed an MSc Forensic Psychology with the Open University. This makes me
John Simlett BSc(Hons) BA MA MSc MSAI MRHistS
Why this is important to me: it helped to redress the chips on my shoulder and the complexes life left me with but has now become a pleasant addiction.
Currently: I'm doing a Master of Laws, LLM (Employment Law), with the University of Leicester. I started Oct 2025. It finishes in Oct 2027. The only problem with it is, it is part-time c18-20 hours/week. I like to work a 7 day week with 42-45 hours a week. To fill the time, I had signed up for a part-time MA Creative Writing with the OU, but that turned out to be a totally garbage course- I dumped it, losing money by doing so.
Planning I'm looking at an LLB with he Open University. It's a full-time two year course for graduates and a 12 month full-time MRes Business & Management with University of Leicester. Not sure how to fit these in yet
